This is why there still needs to be a different playoff formula. Pine Ridge gets a win against Sturgis and now they are more than likely in the playoffs. This is a team that got throttled by Belle Fourche. Belle Fourche has played 2 playoff teams from the East, and were throttled. It is going to be a blood bath whoever gets Pine Ridge in the first round. A team like Tri-Valley or Milbank will be left out because Pine Ridge plays nobody. Same could be said about Todd County. Has a west river team in 11A even beat an east river team yet?

Nope. West river teams are a combined 0-7 against east river and have been outscored 321-89.

37.5% of the 11A playoff teams will be from West River

How about this.
Instead of worrying about Pine Ridge's record.
Maybe TV should just take care of business?
Beat a team with a winning record once and you get a lot more points.
Win out and I bet that you will make the playoffs.

Right now St More is on the outside looking in. TriValley has Madison and Milbank so something might go the Cavaliers way if they can take care of Belle Fourche and Todd Country. Dakota Valley looks like a lock for #1 seed despite Madison's stellar season. Both teams have home field during the playoffs so not a real big difference. I'd prefer that Madison dodge Dell Rapids in the playoffs though. Right now it would be Dakota Valley vs TriValley and then Todd County or Tea. And Madison vs Pine Ridge and Dell Rapids or Milbank. I don't expect those seedings to remain that way though. We'll know next week. Should be interesting.

The power pts have been calculated already after games played last night. STM over took Tri-Valley, thought they would. TV may have just lost a chance at the playoffs, to bad they are a decent team. But, there are some big games next week to determine the final standings.

DV vs Tea--Tea ends the season with a win
Madison vs Dells--close but Madison hangs on to win by 6
Milbank vs TV--Milbank secures a playoff position
Todd Cty vs STM--STM all over Todd Cty
Pine Ridge vs Douglas--Douglas to much for Pine Ridge

Might be the last regular season game, but all these games would make great playoff games.

So my prediction for first round
Madison vs Pine Ridge
Dakota Valley vs Todd Cty
Dell Rapids vs STM
Tea vs Milbank

Second round
Madison vs Tea
Dell Rapids vs Dakota Valley

Championship
Madison vs Dell Rapids

Okay rip apart

It will be a shame if Tri Valley misses the playoffs. Landon Freeman is a real stud. Milbank also had a nice team so it bites that apparently one of them will not survive the cut. I can't see Dakota Valley losing to Tea. Tea appears to be fading but anything can happen on the sporting field. Madison's biggest challenge came from West Central (so far) and on paper that didn't look to be much of a game. And WC beat the snot out of STM so go figure. I don't want Madison to have to play Dells twice in three weeks so I hope that Madison can overtake DV with a win without DV losing and spoiling the meeting of two undefeated squads for the championship.

How is it a surprise to anyone that has followed SD sports over the years that some teams build great records on cream puffs to get a high seed in the state tourney? In football SDHSAA makes the schedule, but not without teams first defining the boundaries of their scheduling comfort zone.

Fortunately, SDHSAA has taken some steps--especially in v-ball and b-ball--to move away from saving spots for teams from different regions. We're a lot better at making teams earn their way to state. Hang in there--more progress will come, but probably not in time for Tri Valley this year.

This week Pine Ridge plays Little Wound, not Douglas. Major difference between playing 2-6 Little Wound and 4-4 Douglas.

I do not believe Tea comes close to Dakota Valley.
