Re: 2019 American Legion Baseball Season

The Class A Legion All-State team was announced yesterday, and there is a lot of high quality talent on the squad. State champion Renner had two selections (OF Nick Hoekstra and P Reece Arbogast) while Rapid City Post 22 and Mitchell each had three on the honor team. The full team is listed below: P...

Re: 2019 American Legion Baseball Season

Congratulations to Renner Post 307 on winning their first state championship in only their eighth year of existence! What an accomplishment for them and best of luck in next week's Central Plains Regional in Sioux Falls. On a side note, Rapid City Post 22 has now lost two of the last three state tou...

Re: 2019 American Legion Baseball Season

Huge upset in the opening round of the state Legion tourney (as predicted by 10880) as Yankton defeats Rapid City Post 22 4-1 behind a complete game from Kieran Lulleman. RC 22 committed an uncharacteristic 5 errors in the game.

Re: 2019 American Legion Baseball Season

I don't disagree with many of your predictions. Day 1 has a good chance to produce some upsets. Luelleman now that he is healthy from Yankton has a chance to beat Rapid City. He went 4-0 vs Region opponents this year. Raske from Pierre was lights out last weekend against Rapid City 320, I could see...

Re: 2019 American Legion Baseball Season

With Harrisburg beating Brookings in last night's wild card game, the fields is now set for the State A American Legion baseball tourney. So now that all the teams are known, let's make a few predictions. First round (Friday): RC 22 over Yankton Brandon Valley over Watertown Renner over Pierre Mitch...

Re: 2019 American Legion Baseball Season

The pairings are out for the State A Legion tourney, and Rapid City Post 22 will likely be tested early as they landed on the same side of the bracket as Brandon Valley, the reigning state high school champs. Post 22 will take on Yankton in the first game on Friday and this presents an interesting m...

Re: 2019 American Legion Baseball Season

12 of South Dakota's Class A Legion baseball teams competed in the Gopher Classic over the weekend, and eight of the teams came away with winning records in pool play. Two teams, Mitchell and Watertown, won their pools and qualified for the round of 16 starting on Monday. So where does that leave us...

2019 American Legion Baseball Season

Now that the high school baseball season is over, it is time to talk about the Boys of Summer! Who are going to be the teams to beat this year in Class A? I will start with my Top 5: 1) Rapid City Post 22 2) Mitchell 3) Brandon Valley 4) Renner 5) Sioux Falls East Others to watch include Sioux Falls...

Re: Boys Basketball Signings

Noah Freidel (Tea Area Sr.) de-commits from Wright State (and former SDSU head coach Scott Nagy) and will sign on to be a Jackrabbit at SDSU. Add in JuCo Tray Buchanan (from DMACC) and Doug Wilson (National JuCo Player of the Year) and things are looking up for new coach Eric Henderson.

Way too early look at 2019-2020 ESD

With the end of the basketball season, it seems like a good time to get an early look at some of the players that will be making an impact on the ESD next year. (classes listed for players are 2019-2020) Aberdeen Central - The Eagles struggled this year but return two big pieces in 6'7" Andrew Berga...

Re: SDHSAA Basketball Advisory Committee Recommendations

I'm not so sure i like the 17 game round robin. I understand it makes sense for post season seeding but won't we lose some of the conference rivalries? I do like getting rid of the combined state tournaments. I think the biggest impact of a full round robin schedule in AA would be on Sturgis and Sp...

SDHSAA Basketball Advisory Committee Recommendations

Was reading the minutes from the Basketball Advisory Committee meeting earlier this month, and there are several interesting recommendations being forwarded to the ADs for their consideration. If the ADs sign off on them, then they will go to the full SDHSAA board for final approval. Here are the pr...

My top 5 in AA right now are (in no particular order) SF Lincoln, Yankton, SF O'Gorman, Brandon Valley and Huron.

Re: AA season to date

Sounds like RC Stevens has lost one of their top scoring threats as senior Dawson Paulsen has gone down with a season-ending injury. This is big blow to the Raiders and probably drops them out of the top 5. Expect to see a heavy dose of Dylan Pourier in the coming weeks for the boys in blue and silv...

AA season to date

Been a little quiet on the board lately, so thought I'd do a quick recap of the AA season now that we are about a third of the way into the season. Teams that are better than anticipated: Sioux Falls Lincoln - Pats are 7-0 and took down former #1 and defending state champ Yankton by 16 last week. Hu...

ESD Pre-season Prediction

Here one person's best guess on how the ESD will shake out for 2018-19: 1) Yankton - With the best player in the state in Matthew Mors, the Bucks have a great shot a defending the AA state title. Mors will be a double-double machine and be looked on to take the big shot at the end of every close gam...
