Re: Best HS Boys coaches - Active in SD

Saw this article posted on facebook last week. http://www.catholicglobe.org/?p=14241 Interesting story about Michael Ricke and his coaching career. Has an unbelievable win/loss record in his career and in the state tournament. Also - was not aware that he battled cancer a few years back. This is a ...

Re: AA vs A - This year

This would have been a fun match-up to watch! Dogs would have won by 10. The Madison defense was so solid this year, and their ability to produce scoring from Fiegen, Jadon Janke, Jaxon Janke, and a solid 2-3 role players was too much to handle for teams this year. Mors would have given them the mos...

Re: When did winning become secondary?

I know that Aaron Fiegen was also offered a scholarship to NDSU, I have talked to him personally, and he seems like a great kid and I think he will be a good fit at SDSU. I have never talked to AJ personally, but i'm sure he is a great kid that will do the team thing first, and do whatever it takes...

Re: When did winning become secondary?

Winning should absolutely be major factor in determining post season awards. It's easy to post big numbers when playing against average teams. It's those players that not only post big numbers, but do so when the games and pressure get elevated to a higher level. Plitzuweit and LeBrun are very good...

Re: When did winning become secondary?

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks the same! My most recent post (until this one) was regarding this very same topic. In case you didn't read it, I will paste it at the end of this post. I think winning, and especially winning the state title, should be used as a strong argument either for o...

Re: Argus Leader 1st & 2nd Top Fives

Interesting. I'm trying to identify the method Argus Leader uses to select the players, but for the second year in a row, I am really confused. First, the player of the year. I'm not saying Mors doesn't deserve it (because in my opinion he does) but this decision over Plitzuweit does not correlate v...

Re: 2018 Class AA All State Team

Congratulations to these young men who have been selected. A special congratulations to the player of the year, Peyton Zabel, for his selection as Class AA player of the year. I am quite shocked the player of the year did not go to Matthew Mors. He had the best numbers and lead his team to the Clas...

Re: 2018 Class A All-State Teams

Good list of players. There are a lot of familiar faces that we saw in the round of 16 and state tournament. Trevor Olson is a very good player and will have a fine career at Mount Marty, but I think Koln Oppold, Jaxon Janke, or Jadon Janke belong on the first team in front of him. Oppold would be m...

Re: 3 Class Shootout

Pissed I missed this event this year. Thanks for the info on how it went, gang. I was a good uncle and attended a birthday party. I'm sure your nephew greatly appreciated your presence on his big day! The more entertaining All-Star game is at the Pentagon on April 8 at 3pm. There won't be a dunk co...

Re: Argus Leader 1st & 2nd Top Fives

I would be shocked if they don't put one SF player on the list. I can see them adding Gatluak from SFL and dropping one of the more deserving A or B school players. That would be a selection to satisfy the Class AA Sioux Falls school fixation. Gatluak is a good player, but Oppold is the best (and m...

Re: Argus Leader 1st & 2nd Top Fives

Wow, I forgot LeBrun! I would add him to my list as one of the locks. Prouty is very worthy also, as is Jordre. The Jankes would be hard to pick just one ..... which one??? And I doubt Madison would get three on the two teams (Fiegen and Janke and Janke). I agree on everything you wrote here. I hav...

3 Class Shootout

Unfortunately I was unable to go see the 3 Class Shootout in Salem this past weekend, but it looks like Class A took the crown. Class A over Class AA 122-112 Class A over Class B 132-108 Not that these games mean anything, but I'm not surprised Class A both both games. This year's Class A graduating...

Re: Pre season Top 10 - SD Sports Buzz

Madison will have less trouble in football even though they lose 90-95% of their scoring in the Jankes and Giles, but they will have a much bigger struggle in basketball where they lose most of their scoring, assists, and rebounding. Next year will be pretty much a rebuilding project for the Bulldo...

Re: Class A Tournament

I thought this year's tournament was exceptional. Here are a few of my personal takeaways: 1) Poor officials... I realize this is the state tournament and emotions are high, but man I thought they were brutally screamed at at every game I attended (and I attended ALL sessions). In particular I thou...

Re: Class A Tournament

Congratulations indeed. Madison has a number of players/families departing its program that have been around for a handful of years. I am excited to see the next round of players and how they step up to own the spotlight.
