I would be surprised if it wasn’t Arlington vs St Mary in the championship game. Although Elkton Lake Benton could surprise.

Re: 2020 Hanson classic pairings

Some nice match ups! PK vs ABR - Parkston BE vs Faith - Faith is having a nice year. Not sure of the level of competition. BE can play with anyone. Record doesn't give them justice CWL v. Tea Area - CWL is well coached. Tea has some players. Good match up AC v CS - AC has Rohrback and CS can play r...

Re: Viborg-Hurley at Howard 1/20

Will definitely be closer than last year's 25 point spread as Howard is much improved. Think it will be similar to Howard - De Smet game with about 4-8 point win for V-H, but who knows? That's why they play the game.... I agree. Howard showed they could play with a B heavyweight in their game with ...

Re: 2020 Hanson classic pairings

The pairings are out for the Hanson Classic next Saturday 1/25/20. Hopefully the weather doesn't play a factor like this weekend! They are as follows: Parkston vs. Aberdeen Roncalli, 10 a.m. Bridgewater-Emery vs. Faith, 11:30 a.m. Clark/Willow Lake vs. Tea Area, 1 p.m. Aberdeen Christian vs. Corsic...

I’ll take the Quarriers in this one. It is hard to pick against SFC, as tough as they have been the last several years. Dells at home wins a close one.

Re: Big Games in Class B this week! DeSmet at St Mary

First off, Connor Libis is an excellent player. DRSM is a very good team. DeSmet is just flat out better. Very telling game. Kalen Garry has to be the best sophomore in Class B, and one of the best in the state. The DS defense is stifling ...... most B teams do not handle the ball well enough to pla...

Re: Big Games in Class B this week! DeSmet at St Mary

#2 DeSmet at #4 St Mary in Dell Rapids on Friday night (1/10/19) - Big time game. Last year went 2 OT (DeSmet won, Libis had 44) two years ago was 1 point (St Mary won) Both are state tourney type teams. Both have 1 loss to Sioux Valley and Dell Rapids Public respectively. All staters on both squad...

Sanborn Central Woony hosts undefeated Howard. This will help establish the region 4 pecking order. Noah Dickson for SCW is the real deal. Big and strong ...... heckuva athlete.

Re: SD Sports Buzz?

The admin tweeted that the site was retiring. Then about 2 weeks or so later the site was gone. I thought their Class A basketball poll was excellent week in and week out. They were pretty much spot on with the rankings. The sarcastic and otherwise editorial comments were pretty funny and laugh out ...

Class B Surprises

Lyman is 4-1 including win over Sully Buttes.
Sully Buttes is winless: 0-1.
Faulkton is undefeated: 3-0.
Lemmon has lost almost as many games as they did all of last year: 1-3.

Re: White River — LNI

My top 5 Class B would be: 1. DeSmet - virtually they entire team is back, including Kalen Garry; except the big guy in the post: Trevin Holland 2. Viborg Hurley - deep junior class including Chase Mason 3. White River - not as deep and experienced after three starters transferred but still have Nic...

White River — LNI

White River just won the LNI for the third straight year. If there was ever any question or debate over Eldon Marshall’s coaching ability, this seasons early body of work supports those who believe Marshall is a great coach. White River knocked off two very good Class A teams, Crow Creek 5-1 and Tio...

Been saying it for a while. If you open enroll, you are ineligible for one year. Certainly, if you transfer during the same school year you should be ineligible the rest of the school year. "Open enrollment, we're on it!"

Re: Class B preview for 2019-2020

As long as there is open enrollment then kids are free to shop around for their next team. Some do it because they want more playing time. Some because they don’t like their coach. Some because they play on a summer travel team with someone and they want to play school basketball with them. Agree wi...

AA Comments

I think to rank Brandon Valley number 1 is a stretch. Top 5 but not 1. Opening week results back that up. Roosevelt beats O’Gorman in early season top 5 game. The best AA teams are in and around Sioux Falls, plus Yankton, Huron and Aberdeen Central from the ESD.

Re: All State Teams

I am not familiar with Taylor Edwards from Hill City but he has worthy stats. I have seen a few of these Class A kids and can tell you that Max Nielson is really good. Started since 8th grade. Nice to see Connor Bawdon from Hamlin get recognized too.
The selections for both A and B look good.
