Madison quarterback for 2018

Postby TennesseeHusker » March 18th, 2018, 5:17 pm

Can any of the Bulldog fans tell me what the story is on Nic Comes? He was backup quarterback in 2016 but never saw him in 2017. Did he give up football? He had a nice basketball season and it would be good to see him on the gridiron again next year giving Tyler Tappey some competition at QB. Madison has had a run of several seasons with a college signee quarterback.

Comes has decided to fully dedicate himself to basketball, meaning that Tappe will be the starting quarterback for the Bulldogs in 2018. Tappe will be a Junior in the fall of 2018. It will be a very interesting season for the 3x defending champ Madison Bulldogs.

What I was told/remember, Comes was moved to WR early into the season of 2016, and the Tappe kid was moved up to varsity backup QB a few games into the season of 2016, his freshman season. I do remember he was the backup in the Dome in 2016 as well as 2017.

Tappe is tall, sees over the line, and throws well--for distance and accuracy. Is a smart kid on and off the field. He lacks mobility and speed. Needs snaps to get timing down. He will be playing behind a very good offensive line, so that will help his transition.

Comes will be playing on Defense--not QB. They need to find a JV/back-up pretty bad.

Tappe looks like a world beater tonight against Belle Fourche. Over 200 yards passing in first half and a couple of nice runs as well. And Comes has an interception.

I heard Madison is gonna sit out Tappe against Tri Valley and Start the Senior Lebeda SInce it is senior night and he never plays as a senior and it will save them from Tappe getting injured for the playoffs.

I agree. Maybe first play, but Madison needs to get some sort of offensive rhythm before the playoffs begin.

Sitting Tappe did not happen - until the Bulldogs went up 42-0. Nathan Ricke, son of coach Mike Ricke is the QB of the future and is looking good (except for a pick 6 just now. The new kicker looks like a future stud at running back as well. Bulldogs have rested their starters all of the second half so far.

I really like Nathan Ricke, from what I've seen. That guy is talented, and you can be sure Mike was teaching him everything he knows from an early age.

Nathan Ricke only plays the backup role because his dad is the coach all the other coaches wanted the senior to be the back up but coach Nielsen has no confidence in the senior qb like the rest of the coaches do. I know the senior QB doesnt have the biggest arm and isn't the fastest on the team but He can complete passes and make them on time He also is short which also a downside to him but I was watching him in Pregame up in MIlbank throwing and I thought he could be the back up they need and I still think he can be if he is given the chance to play the back up role and gets more reps.

Whoa, pump the brakes a bit there bulldogs10.
The current QB situation in Madison is pretty favorable.
The current starter is really putting together a nice season and the freshman backup has played very well when he has gotten the chance to play.
They both throw a nice ball and they both have the ability to move in the pocket and tuck the ball down and take off.
Can't wait for the playoffs to begin to see how things play out.
Big game down South in 11A tomorrow that will sort out the top 3 seed spots.
Good luck to all of the teams/coaches/players!!

Yes I agree that Nathan RIcke throws a good ball but he BUckles under pressure he Threw that pass right to the defender against Tri-valley for the pick 6 then he threw straight to another defender who just cant catch otherwise that would have been another interception I watch his JV/freshman games and he has atleast 2 picks each game this season something is not right with that Yes people can have bad games but you shouldnt average 2 picks per game in a season.

Agree with CP3, this thread is overdone and needs to be drawn to a close. If that needs a motion, I'll make it.
