More Football Classes

Postby captain Tony » November 14th, 2019, 10:06 pm

With all these good games this year, I think we need 4 more classes of football.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffen Glue!

Good point. With Canton winning 11A I think it is obviously we need every class to be 8 teams and 8 teams only. I am glad someone understands.

I was going to ask what everyone thought of the ass kickings these teams are laying out in the championships. What is the fix to this problem?

As suggested in the "Discussion" thread, the SDHSAA needs to look at removing one class from both 11 and 9 man classes. Combine 11AA & 11A (23 teams total). Split 9 man down the middle (9A & 9B). I believe the top 11A programs can match up nicely with the 11AA schools (this years Pierre team being an exception). I am always interested in the 11AAA, 11A & 11B games as these have usually been the best championship games. 11A this year was unusual due to the upsets in the earlier rounds but that is why you play the games. I have zero interest in 11AA. Of course, pigs will fly before the SDHSAA discontinues their money grab. Good luck to the remaining 6 teams today.

Added in edit: Forgot to note that 11A currently has 15 teams & I wonder if Pine Ridge & Todd County will ever join the new All Nations Football Conference.

How close do the championship games have to be to not be blowouts and end the debate of cutting down to two 9 man classes? The 9 A game was 12 points, and the 9AA game was only 10 points after 3. Yes it finished at 26, but Bon Homme was driving to finish the game but was picked off at the goal line. Not going to disagree with 9B being a blowout, but remember that HSA pulled off a few upsets to get there as well. I'm sure that the Lemmon McIntosh and Wolsey Wessington boys all watched thought that the championships were played the week prior. I find it interesting that everyone is okay with 3 - 11 man classes for 58 teams, but need to go to two classes of 9 man for 68?? To me, it doesn't seem as logical.

I agree with you b00m but maybe a few of them 9 AA teams need to go up and re-do the 9 man classes. I also believe the point system is kind of screwy

Here's my thought's on the classes, a few schools petition up and a few schools petition down but I could not find which schools petition down. I know Hamlin is one of them schools that has a lot of kids that cant play because of their religion. I am sure there are a few more out there. But if it were to be changed to this it would be a must that the schools only play within their class, no more schools playing down or up. I am sure a few towns wouldn't be very happy with that because of travel distance but that's to bad. To make our state more competitive across the board that is what needs to happen. There would also be a clause that after every 4 years(length of the co-ops) these classes would be re-assessed and if schools did go undefeated throughout the whole season and playoffs then they may bump up or if schools didn't win a game they may bump down if agreed upon by a board.

twhit0889, I'm all for your proposal, but I don't think that too many others will be... I don't get why football is the only sport that is classified by a sex only ADM?? Boys/girls basketball, volleyball, nor track is judged by one sex or the other, but football is? Why aren't the classifications the same for all sports? Why is football determined differently?

I don't think that many will agree either. I hope some do though so thank you! I think that all ADM's need to be sex-based! Why should a school with 200 students play 11A football if they only have 65 Males.

And not that it makes any difference now, but the decision was made to hold the state title games in Brookings (and good for them! Big boost in local business. Great crowd at Cubby's yesterday!) based on attendance of the 11AAA game, but aren't hardly filling the center section of the SDSU stadium on the visitor's side??? Find it hard to believe that all game could't have been held in the dome.... They are still having the USD games there... SDHSAA had to know that the attendance would be down with outdoor games in November.
