State Tourneys - Who do you have?

Postby coachwatch » March 12th, 2019, 2:26 pm

State Bs: White River - few things in play. Could VH pull the upset in round 1? Its possible, Can BE play 5 guys for 3 games? Worried about their depth. Can CWL ride their big SoDak 16 win to another state title game? I think one of those 3 will prevall. Or does DeSmet pull off more Osthus family magic??? WR is my choice but have to play at a higher level, but they have the depth if they can get by the VH athletes.

As: Tea. All the pieces and all the fire power. Can SFC put together a run? Can PR ride the mohawk of Corey Brown?

AA: Would love to see Yankton back in the title game, but many contenders this year. SFL, SFR, or OG all have a strong shot.

Enjoy the tourneys should be great SD BB and Blizzards to boot! SD March Madness.

B - Bridgewater Emery. They do not have depth but you only need 6 or 7 in the state tournament. Face it, the end of the bench will not see any court time for any of the teams except in a blowout. White River should survive the other bracket side. DeSmet is “intriguing” but I would be surprised if they beat White River. I have seen DeSmet a couple times and they are good and very young.
A - Tea. They proved all year that they are the best team ..... in the state. Freidel, Hohn, and other seniors will not be denied. Pine Ridge is also very good but not as good as Tea. SFC and STM should both win first round games. I think STM plays Tea for the title.
AA - O’Gorman. I don’t know, just a hunch. Would like to see Yankton repeat but Mors doesn’t have enough help .... I don’t think. Both Lincoln and Roosevelt are solid too.

State B

Championship game I have White River vs Bridgewater Emery. I think top to bottom, White River is the best team. I Do however, have Bridgewater Emery winning, as Schultz is the best player at the state B tourney IMO - I think Arend and Dye will show up as well. Should see their effort consistent all tourney as it's their last go at it.

No disrespect to CWL - they will be a very tough matchup day 2 of the tourney for BE. Well coached and tough on defense - With a very good player in Prouty, and the Burke boys are good as well. Best game of the tourney could easily be CWL vs BE Friday night.

Upsets - DeSmet over Jones County in the #5, 4 game. BE - everyone knows is not a 7 seed, but that's how the seed points went.

In my own personal profession, I think this year's B tournament has the potential for every game to be within a 15 point spread.

1st round
(WR/VH) - WR wins this game, but I think VH has the ability to upset them.
(JC/DS) - I love De Smet, but they have the youth to be able to make it back next year, so I am going to pick Jones County to win this game.
(TL/BE) - I know the BE may be the better team here, but TL can get hot. It's going to be a battle inside the paint and it's going to be interesting to see who gets matched with who between PayPay and Schultz.
(CWL/SB) - I don't think that the Burke boys get as much credit as they deserve. SB is going to make it a game, but I don't think they have the same caliber weapons as CWL.

My predictions on placing
1st. White River
2nd. Timber Lake
3rd. Clark/Willow Lake
4th. Jones County
5th. Bridgewater Emery
6th. De Smet
7th. Viborg Hurley
8th. Sully Buttes

I know these predictions might contradict what I said earlier, but let's be honest, this tournament is so incredibly wide open that it is all going to come down to who gets the last possession or who gets the hot hand in the final minutes.

It's gonna be a fun one ladies and gents.

BV boys and girls double.
Your opponent probably understands you and how hard you have worked better than anyone. Your opponent is not your enemy that needs to be hated or humiliated. Celebrate with your teammates, not against your opponents. A worthy opponent is necessary for us to be tested and to reach our best. Without an opponent, there is no competition.

Almost nailed a perfect bracket 1 thru 8. Only missed the 3rd place game with Pine Ridge beating Lennox.
Was a fun tournament to watch.
