2019 A & B

Postby PheasantFaN » September 4th, 2019, 6:30 am

Well another year of VB is underway. Looks like our usual suspects in B (NW. Chester, Warner).

In the A, the top three are head and shoulders above the rest (SFC, Miller, MCM). EPJ and Parker round out the top five. Pheasants with a new coaching staff and some talented underclassmen, the others look pretty senior dominant. I would also watch Wagner, Winner, Dakota Valley and Madison in the A's. Region 5 is loaded and will have some good post season matches to get to the state tournament..

Yes, my Pheasants delivered. I really thought the top three were pretty much ahead of everyone else, but might be a little more even that I thought. I think the dark horse right now is Dakota Valley. Parker has some really good underclassmen that stepped up big the other night, and the bigs delivered.

What is the deal with DV's schedule this year? They only have 14 matches scheduled & no tournaments...

Yikes.. Warner goes 2-3 last weekend, losing to Faulkton Area, Burke and Elkton-Lake Benton, and currently has a 4-5 record. Wonder if they've ever had a losing record over the past 20 years. Also a rebuilding year for Arlington at 1-13 currently.

MCM also defeated Chester Area in a very tight 3-0 battle over the weekend (26-24, 27-25, 26-24). Parker was downed by Garretson 2-0.

Big matchups this week:
Miller @ Northwestern
Elkton-Lake Benton @ Chester Area
McCook Central/Montrose @ SF Christian
Faith @ Herreid/Selby Area
Kadoka Area @ New Underwood
Ipswich @ Warner
Northwestern @ Ipswich
Faulkton Area @ Miller
Faith @ Kadoka Area
Freeman @ Viborg-Hurley

From what I heard, it was a different Parker team than what showed up last week against MCM, of course with their youth, thats probably bound to happen. Bon Homme tourney should give us some great match ups with Parker, Wagner, Northwester, EPJ, Gayville, Vermillion and Beresford and others there too.

NW cruises by the #2 team in Class A last night in 4 sets. Yes, they lost a set, but losing one set to the #2 in the class above you is no big deal. NW will win class B easily this year.

When did NW at Ipswich become a big game? NW will roll in 3 straight.

Faith, Herreid, and Faulkton are all fighting for #2. Every year we hear how a combination of those teams are ready to challenge NW or Warner because they put together nice looking records by beating NOBODY. It's NW's title to lose this year.

Yes, I'm sure NW will roll against Ipswich, but they did take a set from Warner (at Warner) on Tuesday night.

I'd also add Burke up there at the top in class B.

In case you haven't noticed, Warner is way down this year. They might be down for a while. Taking a set from them this year is no big deal. NW destroyed Warner and will do the same to Ipswich. They will do that to every Class B team in the area, if not the state. They are just on another level year after year.

Okay, yes I know NW will likely 3-0 Ipswich. Only reason I stated it was a big matchup was because Ipswich is receiving votes in the Class B poll this week. Yes, Warner is down this year, but it still wouldn't surprise me to see Kari Jung lead this extremely young team to the state tournament again this year.

In a shocking development (sarcasm) NW rolls over Ipswich easily in 3. Another entry in the "not a surprise" category, NW goes down to Bon Homme over the weekend and destroys everybody. Not losing a single set in the event. It's NW's title to lose this year in Class B.

Pheasant Fan, I'm sure you noticed that one of NW's victims over the weekend was Parker. Parker has never been able to play with NW. They are mentally beat before the match even begins. The only team in Class A that would beat NW is SFC. That would be a great match to watch.

October 10 vs. Faulkton is the only remaining match that has any intrigue. The match being played in Faulkton gives Faulkton the ability to hang in the match and possibly pull the upset. Nobody sees that happening, but strange things happen in sports.

It’s crazy to think that this is NWs year to lose the title. They lost 2 5’11” players from last year who had probably over 60% of their kills and they also do not play a libero at all this year. They have a MH playing all the way around and a starting OH who was a setter before this year. Amazing what Coach Groft is able to accomplish.

Best coach in the history of SD. Maybe tied with coach Jung.

You must have a bad memory Teamplayer, two years ago in 2017 Parker was Northwestern's only loss which happened in the championship at BonHomme Tourney. So to say they can't play with them is just plain false. NW is a great program, no questions about it , but to say they (Parker) were mentally beat before the match is just ill informed. Parker's new coach is from your Warner, so coming from coach Jung's program I would imagine more great things to come from Parker in the coming years. They are very young this year, with arguably the best player being a 6'0" sophomore should be a couple good years to come!

Congrats on ONE close win in the many opportunities you've had to beat Warner or NW. You've always acted like Parker is a better program than they are, but what have they ever won? What I said is not false. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time. One win does not change anything. Especially one from 2 years ago.

My Warner? What a dumb thing to say. I'm not from Warner. I just enjoy watching two class B schools beat everybody they play in Class A and B. It's quite remarkable. Class A and AA thumb their noses at Class B schools. Watching NW and Warner beat up on Class A over the years is quite fun. How many Class A top 5 teams has NW already beaten this year? Hopefully your new coach does well, but playing for Kari Jung and coaching like her are two entirely different things.

So far, NW has defeated Wagner, MCM, Madison, Miller, EPJ twice & Parker and only dropped 1 set all year to Miller.

Every year you always wanna start this, NW and Warner have great programs coaches and traditions. No doubt. No arguments here. The two best in the state. I do believe Parker along with Arlington ,also had great programs and coaches who both are now retired. Hopefully their programs continue. The new Parker coach from what I know is doing a great job. We better throw SFC and Chester in the mix of top tier programs as well.
For years you have been partial to Warner, now this year it's Northwestern....sorry for the confusion.
You also seem to forget Parker was class B for most of the last 10 years, I really don't think their thumbing their noses at anybody. They are probably the smallest A school , so playing B or A doesn't bother them in my opinion. Their previous coach had over 800 wins, maybe they didn't win the state title every season, but they were there competing for it year after year. That's better than hundreds of other programs who would love to be there just once .
