Class A Legion To Use New Post-Season Format

Postby CSDsportsfan1 » November 6th, 2019, 11:20 am

According to the Yankton P&D, the state Legion Athletic Commission has approved a change to the post-season format on a trial basis.

The new format to qualify for the state tourney would be similar to the SoDak 16 format used by the SDHSAA for basketball and volleyball. Points will be awarded for wins and losses, and at the end of the regular season, teams will be seeded 1 through 14 with the top seed hosting #14, #2 hosting #13, etc in a best of three-game playoff. The winner of the seven playoffs and the host team will comprise the field and the state tourney will be seeded based on power points.

I like this format as it breaks up some really strong regions and gives the best teams a clearer path to get to the state tourney, plus every game against another SD team means something during the regular season.

Thoughts?
